The manuscripts and many of the letters in the collection concern the controversy arising from an article published about Jim Tully in "The American Mercury" which was edited by Mencken. The writer quoted statements made by Tully about Upton Sinclair, who took issue, saying Tully had distorted the truth. The collection contains typescripts of an article on the controverrsy as revised by Sinclair and letters on the controvery from Mencken, Sinclair and Tully as well as Aleister Crowley, Irwin Broze, Bernard M. L. Ernst, Alfred Harcourt and Mary Craig Sinclair.
